Medical School Admissions? Please help..honest experienced answer please? 3

Hi guys,

I’m currently a pre-med sophomore working on bachelors of science in Honors Biology (not as a tool to get into medical school but because I truly love it) with University Honors as a Co-Major. I have a 4.0 GPA, taken 26 Honors credits and 49 total credits so far….From the Math and Science I’ve taken:

Honors Biodiversty
Honors Cell Biology
Honors Microbiology
General Chemistry
Genetics
Honors Physics 1
Statistics

More to come as the winter semester starts…..I volunterred a total of about I think 60 hours at children’s hospital all summer, both in the playroom and bedside.

I’ve worked on two research projects, one as part of class in the emergency department and another on my own which isnt related to medicine at all and is more of history thing.

I’m hoping to volunteer in one of my professors lab this winter semester so that in the Summer I can hopefully start my own science research project.

I’m in a few clubs as school but honestly I don’t keep in touch at all…

So far…what do you guys think I’m on the right track? I’m worried my volunteering and clubs wont be enough for medical school admissions so I was hoping to get some feedback..Thanks

Medical School vs. Graduate School…HELP!? 2

I am currently a Sophomore at Penn State University Park and am still undecided if I would rather go to grad school or med school. My major is neuroscience. I started as a freshman wanting to do neurosurgery but decided it was too demanding of a life style for me and that the schooling would be to long so I decided I wanted to do clinical psychology and research. After looking into it a little more I discovered that I would have to get my masters and PhD (which I was planning on doing anyway) and then do 1-2 years pretty much shadowing someone before I could work with my own patients. I also would rather be able to give out medication to my patients if they need it which means I should go into psychiatry. I did some research and found that I would need 4 years of med school and then 4 years of residency (which is about the same amount of time I would be spending in education if I decided to go to grad school and then peruse clinical psychology).

I am not sure what to do at all and I have to decide soon since one typically takes the MCATs or GRE their junior year.

Another concern is that I have some of the classes that are "required" for med school admissions but not all of them. I have a decent amount of bio, and chem, but I have yet to take physics and an Organic Chemistry part II and Calc. Would I still be able to get into med school if I took these classes during the summer or just studied from the MCAT book?

As you can see I am very confused as to what to do. Any information you can give me would be appreciated!

How to plan to get into medical school? I'm only 16 now, but I want to go to medical school.? 5

Okay so I am 16 now, and I have known I want to be a doctor for as long as I can remember and cannot imagine doing anything else. I want to be an Orthopedic Surgeon. I’m only a sophomore, and have a 90 average about a 3.48 so not horrible but not top ten percent. What should I do in the future? What classes should I take? What should my major be? Thanks!

Which college gives a better chance at admission into Medical School?? Please help? 6

I live in Florida and am taking dual enrollment courses at the local college and have started some of my pre-med requirements. I have straight A’s all throughout high school too. If I attend a public university in Florida…which would be University of Florida,
it would be cheap (since a scholarship called bright futures covers 100%), and i would start as a sophomore……….

OR, before I moved to Florida and found out about this program, I was planning on attending Wellesley or Bryn Mawr which are very prestigious all girls liberal arts schools in the East Coast. However, none of my credits would transfer and I would have to do 4 years and it would also cost a lot more.

What option can give me a better chance at medical school? Would I be able to get into a school if I did well at UF??? And well on my MCATS too ofcourse….

Any opinions?

High school Medical related Extracurricular? 1

Hi,

I am currently a sophomore going into my junior year of high school. My major will most likely be premed followed by medical school. To further make myself more competitive for admissions, I was interested in possible Extracurricular in the medical field. Live in San Diego, CA but any broad suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Looking into Berkley and UCLA so they have to be beyond good.

Thank you!

Are there any programs where u can get admission to a medical school and an undergrad school at the same time? 4

Im looking to be a pediatrician and I want to attend an Ivy League. As of right now im going to be a sophomore in high school so i still do have a little bit of time before college. Your help would be really appreciated.

what subjects i need to go to medical school?? 4

i am a sophomore in high school, can u guys tell me what subjects i need to get to a good medical school like harvard or John Hopkins? i already finished one year of biology, so I’m thinking of taking chemistry, what else do i need? I did volunteer in hospital for 58 hrs for credits & what other medical related activities can I do to be accepted in medical school?

Will this be beneficial for a medical school? 2

I’m sophomore going to a community college and I’m working hard to keep my GPA 3.5. I’ve heard that when you transfer to a 4 years college, your GPA starts over again from 0. Will medical schools look at my community college record, or I’m just wasting my time trying so hard? After 2 years of community college, so it’s going to take me 2 or 2 and a half years more by finishing the requirements in a 4 years college. Thank you.

What do I need to have to go to medical school to be a doctor at Harvard University? 1
