Admission to the University of Chicago and to Medical School? 1

What will make me look great to the University of Chicago? Questions like which is better: having 1500+ volunteer hours and being a member of clubs or 3.99/4.9 GPA and taking as many classes as possible. I am a freshman in high school and I am in the IB program in Nebraska and I just want to plan ahead or have some thing to look forward to. I obviously plan to do very well in classes, take summer school, and be in the top 5/800 students in my class. 30-32 on the ACT and 2100+ on the SAT. In addition, I plan on spending a couple of weeks in Bombay volunteering at the Mother Theresa Orphans’ Home.
Things I plan on doing through High School:
Chemistry Club
Chess Club
Tennis 3 years
Forensics 1 year
Debate 3 years
11 AP class semesters (6 of which are in my sophomore year)
3 IB HL classes (Biology, Chemistry, and English)
3 IB SL classes (Psychology, Spanish, and Mathematics)
In the summers and on saturdays in the school year I volunteer at hospitals. I chose hospitals because I want to eventually become a surgeon and many of my class choices in high school reflect this (3 years of Biology, 3 years of Chemistry, 1 year of Physics.)
Question 2: If I do go to a school outside of Nebraska, like the University of Chicago, will that hurt my chances of admission to UNMC, a state medical school?
Question 3: With the information I provided earlier, will I be able to even get into the University of Chicago?
Question 4: Is it worth it to go to prestigious universities?
Question 5: Do medical schools like it when you don’t major in physical or natural sciences?

Thank you for all the help on these 5 questions. I would really appreciate people who will answer these burning questions.

can i get into medical school with a 3.3 gpa in aerospace engineering? 3

I will have completed the requirements for med school along with the requirements for a b.s. in aerospace engineering by this spring. I’m am sure that my gpa will remain at, or around, a 3.3.The last three semesters i will have completed on average 20 units and work about 15- 20 hours at my internship. what are my chances of getting into medical school. please, i know that a 3.3 would be considered low in some majors but due to the volume of work required in engineering do i have a chance of getting into medical school, and roughly what are my odds.

GPA and getting into Medical school? 3

this semester was my second semester at the University of Connecticut. I got a 3.7 my first semester and a 3.59 this past semester, so my cumulative GPA is currently a 3.647. I’m hoping to get minimum 3.8 gpa’s for my remaining 6 semesters. Do i have a chance at getting into a top 10 medical school? I got a B this semester and i totally killed me. I have A’s and A-’s in all of the other classes i have taken in college except this one and I’m worried it has jeopardized my chances of getting into j hopkins or yale for med school. Any input? thanks!!

X – Ray Technician/Medical Radiography licensing and school requirements for California and Arizona? 1

I am currently living in Phoenix and am planning on attending school to study Medical Radiography so I can become an X ray tech. The program I checked out only takes 2 years, or 4 semesters on average, so says the website. I am from Los Angeles though and would like to get my degree in Phoenix and move back to LA ASAP after I’m finished with school. SO my question is, are the schooling requirements the same and what about the licensing for Cali and AZ? Any and all info about the state requirements or just general info about X-ray schooling/career will be much appreciated.
Also, what routes would you suggest in furthering my education as an x ray tech; what are my options? what pays the best? Amount of school for each route? Thanks!

How do I get into Harvard Medical School? 1

Will I have problems getting in because I’ve messed up in the past? What exactly do I have to do? This is my situation. I was a C student through out High School because of my absences. I was severely depressed during that time in my life. I felt like i had nothing to live for and going to school was like whatever. I knew that i wanted to be a doctor but at that time i just thought i was only saying that because that’s what you say when you don’t live for anything. My first year in college I went away to a great SUNY school upstate NY. I messed up my first semester and got academically dismissed with a .42 gpa average. I went to a community college in NYC and took 3 classes. My first semester my GPA went up to a 2.5. I went for 2 more semesters and I ended up withdrawing and failing a few classes. I wasn’t mentally prepared to attend school. I was only going because I didn’t want to disappoint my mother or have her say that I wasn’t in school. and that happened. I dropped out of school for a semester and took CNA courses. I graduated out of the program and now have a CNA license. Right afterward I realized that helping people is what I truly want to do and what i’ve always wanted to do. Since then I went back to a new community college and i wam starting over with a NEW GPA. I’m doing very well this semester and I would like to transfer into NYU when I’m done with the nursing program I am in now. I would like to get my bachelors in nursing and later on in life go to medical school. I just want to know if i’ll have any problems getting in because I’ve messed up in the past. I am 21 years old now and I am more mature and ready to live my life. I dream big. It is a very competetive school but I won’t stop until I get it. I’ll work my hardest. =)

Medical School Admission? 3

I’m starting my pre req’s for medical school this year.
This is what it says on the University of Washington SOM website:

2010 Course Requirements

The premedical course requirements must be completed before matriculation
but preferably before the time of application. Undergraduate or
post/baccalaureate courses must be completed at a college or university
accredited by the appropriate regional accrediting body. Courses must
include a minimum of:

5 semesters of Social Sciences or Humanities.
6 semesters of Chemistry and Biology.
1 semester of Physics plus 1 semester of Calc

It’s going to take me until I graduate to get my General Univeristy Requirements, degree, and THIS pre-med stuff done.

Dont you apply after your JUNIOR year? Will this be a problem if I don’t have the pre req’s before applying?

Requirements for medical school? 4

When medical schools say students are required 1 year of Biology, 2 years of inorganic/organic chemistry, etc. does that really mean 2 semesters?

At my college, there are only semester long classes (as far as I know, at least) so to fulfill the requirement for biology, I would need 2 semesters = 2 classes (without AP credit)

If I got AP Credit for physics, it would only mean for 1 semester and I would need to take one more semester class for physics?

Thank you for your help, I just want to see if I am doing the prerequisites right..

Will my low gpa prevent me from getting into a university and then into medical school? 3

My gpa is 2.86 right now. I have really slacked off at school because I was having bf trouble. It is usually like 3.8. I am in a community college doing under graduate coursework. I have two semesters left before I finish my associates. Can I get into a 4 year college and then go to medical school with such a low gpa on my transcript?
If I bring my GPA up will that help?

Medical school admissions: can I do it with the GPA if I’m an engineering student/math minor (criteria)? 1

I’ve gotten through most of the courses which are GPA killers, but I’m a civil engineering major. I needed to do stuff for a math minor, and did, and anyway, junior year now, I’ve got a 3.2GPA. I know that’s low, but it should raise to about a 3.3-3.5; somewhere in there by the end I hope. I’m good at standardized testing, hopefully MCAT will go well. I’ve done calc I II III and differential equations plus other mathwork for math minor (foundations, history of math, etc) and I am doing Orgo I now, I’ve done physics I and II and chem I and II and I’ve got bio to do – I wanted to wait a little on bio so I’d have it freshest in my mind for when I go to take the MCAT’s. I’ll be doing bio I clep style cause I just can’t fit it any other way, if I don’t get in at first that’s one thing I’ll retake on college level but literally, I need bio I for engineering coursework and I need to get it this semester clep is ALL I can do – I know I don’t want to make a habit of clepping out of pre-req’s but this one I have no choice.

Anyway, I’ve heard two things I’d like to verify. I know that med school likes people who weren’t just bio/premed majors. Good well roundedness there. But, will they take into account that I was doing Civil Engineering and say, hmmm… Maybe .2 less GPA is ok since he wasn’t in GPA boosting classes like liberal arts or whatever for a bachelor’s degree…. Is that common or does the number objectively decide regardless of a technical major? I know UF actually discourages engineering because they aver on their site that most people can’t do that and pre-med requisites. Which I’m doing. Most people are impressed, will the admissions people be (all that matters, really… ?)

The last one, is the 18 credit semesters. I’ve been doing more than just the requisite 12 for a while. It’s a killer. Especially since it’s not like I’m taking art for the extra GPA. Will they care and alter the average for this reason, or will they just say forget him, so what if he’s ambitious enough to bite off more than he can chew (i.e. for a 3.8GPA)?

Please, if you’re just guessing then say it’s what you’ve heard, I need concrete examples here and sometimes yahoo has people older than 12 answering who know what they’re talking about… But I really will start my research here, and need some good info. Thanks to anyone who cares though!

medical school requirements question…? 1

Okay so i’ve been looking at medical school prerequisites and i’m going to university in the fall. I was wonderig if the classes like organic chemistry mean 2 quarters? or 2 semesters (1 year)? Like one in fall and one in winter and i’m done? Sorry this is stupid question but I can’t figure it out.

Also, I know you need LoR for AMCAS; when I apply should i get those along the way OR when it’s application time? How many should I have?

Thank you. :) )
Okay so UCR is on the quarter system D:
okay i think i get it… I’ll have to ask my advisor when i get there >.<
