Medical School vs. Graduate School…HELP!? 2

I am currently a Sophomore at Penn State University Park and am still undecided if I would rather go to grad school or med school. My major is neuroscience. I started as a freshman wanting to do neurosurgery but decided it was too demanding of a life style for me and that the schooling would be to long so I decided I wanted to do clinical psychology and research. After looking into it a little more I discovered that I would have to get my masters and PhD (which I was planning on doing anyway) and then do 1-2 years pretty much shadowing someone before I could work with my own patients. I also would rather be able to give out medication to my patients if they need it which means I should go into psychiatry. I did some research and found that I would need 4 years of med school and then 4 years of residency (which is about the same amount of time I would be spending in education if I decided to go to grad school and then peruse clinical psychology).

I am not sure what to do at all and I have to decide soon since one typically takes the MCATs or GRE their junior year.

Another concern is that I have some of the classes that are "required" for med school admissions but not all of them. I have a decent amount of bio, and chem, but I have yet to take physics and an Organic Chemistry part II and Calc. Would I still be able to get into med school if I took these classes during the summer or just studied from the MCAT book?

As you can see I am very confused as to what to do. Any information you can give me would be appreciated!

What are my chances of getting into medical school? 3

A’s both semesters of Biology Principals
A’s both semesters of general chemistry
B’s both semesters of physics
B’s both semesters of organic chemistry
a lot of research experience (3 research internships throughout college)
3 publications
major is biology
major gpa = 3.88
cumulative gpa = 3.73
writer for college’s newspaper
vice president of the college’s medical ethics society
member of the biology club
Great references and admissions essay.
Did not take the MCAT yet.
Not so much concerned about the interview-it should be fine.

Hello, I am a premed who asipires to go to medical school
My major is Biology, and I attend a state univ that is top 50 in undergrad ranking.

Please look over my resume-like status and help me out. Thank you.

Science GPA 3.77/4.0
Overall GPA 3.78/4.0

General Chem and Lab 1,2 A/A
General Biology and lab 1,2 B/B
Organic Chemistry 1,2 and lab 1,2 A/A
Calculus 1,2 A/A
Statistics A

My school doesn’t offer A+, only A, B+, and etc.

pre-med and pre-dentistry subjects that I am taking now.

Physics 1
Biochemistry

I am about to take finals, and I only need to make a C+ and a B on Physics and Biochemistry to maintain my As. My Science GPA would rise up to 3.82/4.0

How easy is it for an American to go to medical school in the UK? How can I do it? 1

Hello!

I am a 24-year-old with a BA from the University of Chicago. I am currently in a post-baccalaureate program for pre-medical students during which I am finishing the requirements for applying to medical school in the US (Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, and Biology, etc.). I also work at a reputable laboratory in biochemistry. I am currently considering applying to medical schools in the UK and I was wondering if that is possible for me? Does any one know how this can be done? I would not only to go to medical school there but also immigrate there permanently and practice in the UK or other EU countries. Can anyone direct me to a useful site or provide other information about this issue? Thank you!
I would just like to add that my undergraduate degree was in sociology and that is the reason I am in a post-bacc. Any information about how that would be received in such an application to medical schools in the UK would also be appreciated.

What should I major in if I want to go to nursing school? 2

My college does not offer a nursing major. Therefore, I would have to fulfill the nursing school pre-req classes, and have some other major.

I am currently an undergraduate biology major, and I am finding a lot of the classes I am taking (physics, organic chemistry, etc.) are very challenging and time-consuming, yet they are not necessary for nursing school. Most people at my school who are biology majors are pre-med, and the courses taken in the major fulfill medical school requirements. I do not want my new major to be too intensive, so that I can complete the extra nursing school pre-req classes on top of it. However, I also do not want a major that will appear as a joke to graduate schools.

I’m thinking about kinesiology or psychology. Any thoughts? I appreciate any advice!

What minor at University of San Diego will satisfy the prerequisites for Medical School? 1

The prerequisites are: biology, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, physics, english, calculus and sometimes biochemistry. I have already taken Calculus and English for one year.

What minor will enable me to take bio, inorganic and organic chemistry.

I am double majoring in Business Administration and Real Estate.

Should I apply to Harvard for medical school? 9

This is for Medical School. I’m already getting a BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I have gotten straight A’s in every class, including classes like organic chemistry and physical chemistry, and all of the pre-med classes. I have a published research paper that I did and have done internships and currently working at a laboratory at NYU and work as a TA for one of my professors. Should I spend the money on the application fees and apply Harvard? Do you think I have a good enough chance? I would attend if I was accepted.
I intend to apply to other good med schools but I know how hard it is to get into Harvard even if you are highly qualified.

Would I have a better chance of admission into med school if i took prerequisites at the med school university? 1

I know I have to take general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, biology, and a few maths, english, and a few others but would it be better to take the four sciences at the university where the actual medical school is at.

Medical school in Germany or Czech Republic? 1

I have got a Bachelor degree in Natural Science (from the U.S). My overall G.P.A is only 3.1, premed grade varies from AB to C. I have done organic chemistry at Harvard extension school and got B+ and B-. Currently I got a first author title for a research paper from a major Boston Hospital and Harvard medical school. But before I got the news I came to Germany to learn the language, hoping that my chances for medical school admission would be higher…now half years has passed.. my language level is better, but is still not good enough for the language exam… should I continue or should I look into the medical school in Czech Republic * first Charles University Pague* Do I have chances to get into a german school? or should i switch gear and learn medicine in English in Czech Republic????? Help me ,please :( P.S. i am already 25…. I just want to do something with patients.. and make a decent income.. what can I do to use my experience and education in order to make my dream come true?… working with Patient… treating disease???

Requirements for medical school? 4

When medical schools say students are required 1 year of Biology, 2 years of inorganic/organic chemistry, etc. does that really mean 2 semesters?

At my college, there are only semester long classes (as far as I know, at least) so to fulfill the requirement for biology, I would need 2 semesters = 2 classes (without AP credit)

If I got AP Credit for physics, it would only mean for 1 semester and I would need to take one more semester class for physics?

Thank you for your help, I just want to see if I am doing the prerequisites right..

General Physics or University Physics for medical school? 1

I’m an undergrad student completing my requirements for medical school. I’ve already taken general biology and lab, general chemistry and lab, calculus 1 and 2. Right now I’m taking organic chemistry and lab. Next semester I need to take physics but I’m not sure which one to take: General Physics or University Physics. The main difference I’ve found is that General Physics is algebra-based and University Physics is calculus-based. I know that math and physics majors have to take university physics but what about science majors? Does it really matter for medical school or the MCAT? Will I be less prepared if I take general physics?
