What schools are the best for pre medical students and how importance is university rank when choosing? 3

Hey. I’m graduating from high school next year in May and so I will start applying to colleges this year in the fall. I want to go into medicine but I’m not sure what colleges/universities I should be looking at. I live in Maryland and I want to stay on the East Coast. I would preferably like to go to New York. What are some good schools I can go to. I want to go to NYU but im not sure if I can get in. How important is a universities rank for fturue med students. I just want to make sure I pick a good school to provide me with the best experience and services since medical school is so challenging. I know I’m just going into pre med but I want to get off to a good start. PLEASE HELP.

So wait, are the top grad schools elitist? 4

So far I have heard things like

"you do not have a chance of getting into the Harvard school of Law if you went to a state university, you must go to a top 20 school to even be considered"

"There is no way Harvard or Stanford will admit a student from a regular university, they want the best students from the best universities, a 3.6 at Princeton looks better than a 3.8 at NYU when applying for the Yale Business school".

So my experience has been different, my cousin was accepted into Stanford from an HBCU. My question is, do you need to go to a TOP UNDERGRAD in order to get into a top grad school (Harvard Law or Johns Hopkins Medical)?

Medical School help?? 3

Okay so my first semester of college just ended and I failed Chemistry and the lab. This happened because of my Test anxiety that Im working on. Im planinng on retaking it and I will definitely do better in my classes from now on. I dont want to give an excuse but his was a new experience for me. My question, If I do REALLY GOOD from now on and get a good MCAT score. Will failing chemistry still ruin my chances to get into the well known medical schools?
I top choices are UM and NYU.

Should I apply to Harvard for medical school? 9

This is for Medical School. I’m already getting a BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I have gotten straight A’s in every class, including classes like organic chemistry and physical chemistry, and all of the pre-med classes. I have a published research paper that I did and have done internships and currently working at a laboratory at NYU and work as a TA for one of my professors. Should I spend the money on the application fees and apply Harvard? Do you think I have a good enough chance? I would attend if I was accepted.
I intend to apply to other good med schools but I know how hard it is to get into Harvard even if you are highly qualified.

How do I get into Harvard Medical School? 1

Will I have problems getting in because I’ve messed up in the past? What exactly do I have to do? This is my situation. I was a C student through out High School because of my absences. I was severely depressed during that time in my life. I felt like i had nothing to live for and going to school was like whatever. I knew that i wanted to be a doctor but at that time i just thought i was only saying that because that’s what you say when you don’t live for anything. My first year in college I went away to a great SUNY school upstate NY. I messed up my first semester and got academically dismissed with a .42 gpa average. I went to a community college in NYC and took 3 classes. My first semester my GPA went up to a 2.5. I went for 2 more semesters and I ended up withdrawing and failing a few classes. I wasn’t mentally prepared to attend school. I was only going because I didn’t want to disappoint my mother or have her say that I wasn’t in school. and that happened. I dropped out of school for a semester and took CNA courses. I graduated out of the program and now have a CNA license. Right afterward I realized that helping people is what I truly want to do and what i’ve always wanted to do. Since then I went back to a new community college and i wam starting over with a NEW GPA. I’m doing very well this semester and I would like to transfer into NYU when I’m done with the nursing program I am in now. I would like to get my bachelors in nursing and later on in life go to medical school. I just want to know if i’ll have any problems getting in because I’ve messed up in the past. I am 21 years old now and I am more mature and ready to live my life. I dream big. It is a very competetive school but I won’t stop until I get it. I’ll work my hardest. =)
