Which double major combination will get me noticed by medical schools? 2

I understand that medical schools don’t require a specific major, but just that you take the prerequisite courses and the MCAT. If you were on a medical school’s admission selection committee, which double major would stick out (in a good way) to you and which double major would you most applaud?

Biology and Molecular Biology
Biology and History
Molecular Biology and History

From Cal State University (CSU) to medical school? 3

I want to know if I can still go to medical school if I go to a state university instead of a UC. If I get a good gpa and do well on my mcat at a state university can I still get into medical school. Do medical schools prefer UC graduates over CSU graduates?

Is community college a bad choice if you want to become a doctor? Help? 4

I have options open, but I want to apply to community college to save money. However, I heard medical schools look down upon community college students because their science classes are relatively easier. I want to do two years of community college, then transfer to Harvard Medical School. What should I do? Should I get a free tuition at a community college or should I pay and go to a university? Please help. Any advice is appreciated.
Sorry, I mean transfer to a 4 year university and then apply for medical school.

What is the best language to minor in for medical school acceptance? 1

I am currently a pre-med undergraduate student who is planning on majoring in Biology or Neuroscience. My dream medical school is UCLA or UCSF. I looked at the requirements for UCLA medical school and they highly recommend to take Spanish courses but I have already fulfilled that requirement in high school. I will take a language course in college though because I want to but I want to take Chinese or Japanese because I have an interest in those two languages.
Do you suggest to go with the Spanish in order to increase my chances for UCLA or take the languages I have an interest in?

***Also, I would like some general suggestions for me to increase my chances in getting accepted into medical schools***

THANK YOU SOO MUCH!

Should I attend the University of Oxford Medical School? 1

Hi,
I am a pre-med student(first year) and I’m trying to plan ahead when it comes to taking my MCATs, researching great medical schools so that I can prepare early. I’ve lived in New York all my life and while I’ve been researching medical schools in the US(Harvard, John Hopkins,Columbia) I have also been researching Oxford. I want to branch out and maybe travel out of the country for medical school( because I am incredibly shy lol)

Is it a great medical school?
How does the government work with traveling overseas for medical school?
Is it in the same price range as Harvard or John Hopkins would be?

Please and Thanks in advance for anyone who can answer these questions for me.

question about medical school? 1

I am a highschool student in toronto, and going to graduate next year. I am thinking of applying to life sciences in a university in Canada, and from there to get into medical school. I am planning to take 2 to 3 courses in the first year of university as a part time student to get a good footing in the university, and then to gradually step it up. I have heared that medical schools look at your undergrad courseload, as a guidline for admission. Is this true, and if so is this for all four years, or just for the final year of the undergrad?

I have a medical school question? 1

I wrote this as a letter to a couple of medical schools, and haven’t got responses, maybe you guys can help…

I am attending college online, at ___________________, which is regionally accredited.
You may ask why online, but I am a full time father, who works full time. My wife is also going to school online, and by the time she finishes, I would be looking for medical school admissions. So at the current time online is my only option.

I am a History major, but I have taken, and plan to take several Science electives. My college does not offer Inorganic Chemistry, and Bio II, but I believe we have classes that may substitute. The other problem is my classes are half semester classes.

Here is what I am taking and plan to take:

Introduction to Biology with lab
Intro to Microbiology
Introduction to Chemistry with lab
Introduction to Human Anatomy and Physiology with lab
Intro to Physics with Lab
Intro to Human Genetics
Advanced Human Anatomy
General Psychology

If I pass with at least a B for each of these classes, what classes would I still need to take.
I can also take Calculus and additional Physics if needed, and if I really had to I could pick up some additional classes at a Community College.

Aside from academics, If I had good MCAT scores, recommendations, volunteer experience, etc., would I be considered a candidate for admissions for Medical School, or would I probably be "laughed out of the water".

I want you to be honest with me now, so I can work on the problems now.

Help Please. I know you guys aren’t medical school reps, but maybe you might know.

Thanks

Ryan

Why is medical school acceptance rate so low? Is it a conspiracy? 4

It seems that even average medical schools (forget Harvard or UCSF) have acceptance rates <10 percent. Why is this? Is the AAMC trying to restrict the number of graduating doctors to keep their salaries artificially inflated? If there is such a strong need for doctors and looking at the skyrocketing healthcare costs, why don’t they increase the number of seats? Why don’t they allow importation of foreign doctors on H1 visas who are just as good as their American counterparts to reduce the wages of doctors?

I feel it is a conspiracy on part of the AAMC and the hospitals that are run like corporations to loot Americans who have no choice. Sad that this "noble" field has turned into such a racket.

So why dont they increase the number of seats?
When law schools and business schools can increase seats why cant medical schools?
Rohan, then why not allow foreign doctors on H1 visas to practice in the USA? Its a myth that foreign doctors are substandard to American doctors. In some cases they are even better than American doctors and less greedy. We need to bring down the cost of healthcare by importing foreign doctors just the way we import engineers and scientists.
