What are my chances for Medical School? 1

I have a more than 3.5 Science GPA. I have clinical experiance and I’m confident I will score over a 30 on my MCAT. But even with the prerequisites I fear I am still not competitive applicant.

My university’s medical school has over 4,000 applicants for 40 slots. What are my realistic chances?

Please be honest. I want to be a doctor more than anything else in the world.

Which double major combination will get me noticed by medical schools? 2

I understand that medical schools don’t require a specific major, but just that you take the prerequisite courses and the MCAT. If you were on a medical school’s admission selection committee, which double major would stick out (in a good way) to you and which double major would you most applaud?

From Cal State University (CSU) to medical school? 3

I want to know if I can still go to medical school if I go to a state university instead of a UC. If I get a good gpa and do well on my mcat at a state university can I still get into medical school. Do medical schools prefer UC graduates over CSU graduates?

What are my chances of getting into medical school? 3

A’s both semesters of Biology Principals
A’s both semesters of general chemistry
B’s both semesters of physics
B’s both semesters of organic chemistry
a lot of research experience (3 research internships throughout college)
3 publications
major is biology
major gpa = 3.88
cumulative gpa = 3.73
writer for college’s newspaper
vice president of the college’s medical ethics society
member of the biology club
Great references and admissions essay.
Did not take the MCAT yet.
Not so much concerned about the interview-it should be fine.

If you don't go to a top med school, would it be harder to get a job as a doctor? 2

So I’m just in the 8th grade, but I really want to be a doctor. So lets say I got my degree in biology, and I passed the MCAT. For an idea, let’s say I applied to both Penn med school and UT medical school. So of course Penn is a better med school, but lets say I only got accepted into UT medical school. Would getting hired as a doctor be harder?

Thanks!

What is the best major for someone intent on going to medical school? 1

I know that these days, you can pick virtually any major you want for the bachelor so long as you complete the required pre-med. courses. However, would picking a major like psychology hinder my performance on the MCAT or in medical school from a more lacking science background? Just thinking long term. =]

Will I have a hard time getting into medical school because of my age? 2

I’m 18 and I’ll be graduating from a highly ranked university next year. I’m majoring in biochemistry and I have a 4.0 gpa. I have the same extracurricular activities as many other pre meds and a 36 on the MCAT.

If I was a little older I wouldn’t be worrying about getting in, but I am several years younger than the average applicant. Do the admissions committees prefer applicants that are a little bit older?

Will I have a hard time getting into medical school because of my age? 3

I’m going to graduate when I’m 19. I have a 4.0, am in an honor’s program, EMT, haven’t taken the MCATs yet, research experience, etc.

Is being younger than the other people in the student body going to be a disadvantage in admissions?
I’m fairly certain I’ll do well on the MCAT. I’ve taken practice tests and have scored highly on all of them.

Admission into Medical School? 3

I’m very interested in going to medical school, and my advisor says I have a good chance and is very encouraging. However, a lot of my grades in the pre-requisite courses required to apply have not been so high. The reason for this is because they were all mostly freshman year, and I just simply did not do as well as I liked. However, I have improved dramatically, and all of my science courses *mostly upper divisions) that aren’t pre-requisites I have gotten A’s in. So how bad does it look that I didn’t get an A in General Chemistry or General Biology, but have gotten A’s easily in Advanced Medical Physiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Cell Biology, etc. My advisor says the improvement is very important, but I am still not sure. Also, I CANNOT re-take any of my pre-requisite classes. I take the MCAT May 31st, I’m pretty sure this will be the deciding factor, considering my past, do you agree? My overall GPA right now is a 3.45. (the past year and half have been 4.0’s) I
I am also not sure to apply for Fall 2009, with my current GPA. If I apply for fall 2010 (year after I graduate), I’ll have 1 year experience as a CNA, and a higher GPA since my senior year will be averaged in. (about a 3.55 or so)
Also, in the pre-requisite courses, I had about a B average including 1 C.

Med School Admissions question? 1

If you are 22 years old, with a degree in Chemistry from a hard school like UNC, with 4 years of EMT experience and 3 years of paramedic experience, a decent score on the MCAT, but a lower gpa of around 3.0, what are your chances of getting into medical schools?
