Medical School . Where do I begin? 3

Medical School . Where do I begin?
So I am a junoir in high school with a 3.5 GPA and 1800 SAT.
I come from one of the top 100th public schools in the nation and can get into some pretty good undergrad programs. I want to have a general plan for my future though. I want to be a pschiatrist so Medical school will be in my future. I very much like New York city. I am extremley independent and I would have no problem going to CUNY Hunter or another cheap school, finding a roomate and getting an undergrad degree with all honors and a estimated GPA between 3.8-4.0. I want to go to a medical school in New york city. But, I could also go to a much better undergrad program , prob get a 3.7 without honors but more expensive. My family is pretty well off but I dont want them to pay for everything and if I went to a new york city school I could probably hold a job. I am very mature and can fit in with city life , dorms and all that college baggage I could live with but I can also live without.

My Uncle went to Columbia University so I might have a slight shot their. What should I do? Where should I begin? Should I go to a harder better undergrad program or a decent one that is cheaper in the city where I will probably got to medical school. I am from southern California and My uncle lives near new york and is a dentist(MD) .
I have some extra corriculars to:

CPR certification
Lifeguard
2 national titles
200 hours community service
And more……..

So what undergrad program seems like the best and smarter, better choice all around. When should I start studying for the MCATS and what are some good majors (pre-med/chem./bio ….)

Does working as a pharmacy assistant help admission to medical school? 1

I want to apply for a job as a pharmacy assistant( which is not the same as a pharmacy technician) and I am wondering if it helps getting into medical school.
I mean I know the most important thing are grades, etc but work experience also counts.
Because I have seen some med applicants writing on their resume that they have been working as a lab tech, etc. So I am wondering if I work as a pharmacy assistant at Shoppers Drug Mart or London Drugs, I’m actually adding to my experience to get more prepared for medical school? Does it increase my chances of admission?

can a DO (doctor of osteopathy) work at allopathic hospital ? medical school mcat admission? 2

i know that a graduate from an osteopathy school becomes a DO upon graduation and has the option of taking both COMLEX and USMLE exams in order to do residency in their respective fields

I want to be an emergency room doctor but will only be able to get into a DO school… i know as a DO you can do your residency in emergency medicine….

my questions were:

1. do allopathic hospitals hire someone having graduated from a DO school and finishing up emergency medicine residency

2. and if so, is it very competitive to get a job being a DO emergency physician vs MD emergency physician?

any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks for reading this…

I'm thinking about being a dentist later on. Should I major in biology or biomedical engineering? 4

Both fufill medical school requirements. Biology is an easier major compared to biomed engineering. But biology is a pointless degree if I don’t go to medical school or change my mind about dentistry. Biomed is a killer degree from what I’ve heard, it’s like a double major. It is a more useful major if I decide to get a non-medical job. What should I do?

To become a pathologists or any doctor do you have to go to a good medical school like John Hopkins? 2

I use to believe that all doctors had to graduate from good and well known medical schools to become a doctor in the field they want to practice. Does one have to apply to Northwestern, or John Hopkins, or even Harvard to become a doctor, or can a local medical school do the job?

What does it take to get into an Ivy League? 9

Hi–I’m a senior in high school getting ready for college. I’ve been rejected by the Ivies I’ve applied to so far (Cornell, Yale, Harvard). It’s just that for my dream–which is to become a dermatologist, these schools have top notch medical schools. It’s just a dream, but I really want to get into one of these schools. I don’t know what I don’t have that my friends do. I’m half Japanese and half white, and I speak Japanese fluently. I got a solid 1800 on the new SAT and okay scores on the SAT II’s (600’s and a 750 on the Japanese) and a 27 Composite on the ACT. I’ve taken 5 AP’s and gotten 4’s on two of them (3 I have to take in May this year) and my GPA is a 3.8. Extracirriculars: Literary Magazine, Newspaper articles, Japanese tutoring, volunteering at a hospital, and a job in sophomore year. Do you think there is something I should work on so that I can successfully transfer into these schools later on in college? Thank
