Do you NEED to go to a good university to get into MEDICAL SCHOOL? 1

Everyone keeps saying that you need to go to a prestigious school to get into a medical school (im not talking prestigious medical schools, but any recognized medical school)

Is this true? what if you just go to a regular admirable university (not community, but not top notch)?
not ALL doctors today come from prestigious schools right?!

Why is medical school acceptance rate so low? Is it a conspiracy? 4

It seems that even average medical schools (forget Harvard or UCSF) have acceptance rates <10 percent. Why is this? Is the AAMC trying to restrict the number of graduating doctors to keep their salaries artificially inflated? If there is such a strong need for doctors and looking at the skyrocketing healthcare costs, why don’t they increase the number of seats? Why don’t they allow importation of foreign doctors on H1 visas who are just as good as their American counterparts to reduce the wages of doctors?

I feel it is a conspiracy on part of the AAMC and the hospitals that are run like corporations to loot Americans who have no choice. Sad that this "noble" field has turned into such a racket.

To become a pathologists or any doctor do you have to go to a good medical school like John Hopkins? 2

I use to believe that all doctors had to graduate from good and well known medical schools to become a doctor in the field they want to practice. Does one have to apply to Northwestern, or John Hopkins, or even Harvard to become a doctor, or can a local medical school do the job?

My boyfriend just finished Medical School from Cornell University and I am worried about his salary? 6

My boyfriend just finished up medical school from Cornell University 2 1/2 years ago and is now in his last year of Residency. He is a Pediatrician and he does general medicine in the ER at the New York Presbyterian Hospital. He always claim to be broke and I have to give him money and stuff and show a lot of financial support for him. I never asked what he is making a month or year but I am curious to know, I mean him being a physician at a top hospital and being Ivy League educated it makes me wonder. He always claim paying back medical school takes most of his money but I don’t know. Do anyone out there think that they may have a clue at what "range" his salary might fall under. I don’t mind pulling him out of the financial hole or anything but I am just curious to where all of this Doctors financial earnings is going to? Any answer is appreciated…..thanks!

What is the best way to gain admission to a medical school with a low GPA? 1

I know that American medical schools are more strict than foreign medical institutions. However, i also know of a good number of very successful doctors in america who acquired their MDs in the Carribean, Poland, Pakistan, India, etc.

So with a willingness to travel outside of the country, what are the chances of one to be admitted into a medical school with a GPA lower than 3.0 but higher than 2.5?

The individual asking this question is very determined and bright and is capable of excelling beyond what his GPA shows, however due to the responsibility of long work weeks and attending full time classes (and a little bit of partying, haha…) the students GPA has not been too great….

The student has a strong resume and access to some sources for letters of reccomedations..

what are your five top choices for medical schools, which provide MD degrees which are acceptable and respected amongst the medical community in the US?

Not financially feasible to go to medical school? 1

I graduated from college last year, but decided to return this year so I could complete pre-med requirements and apply to medical school. I will not be 26 until I start medical school which makes me 30 when I graduate. I will not be finished with residency until at least 34. Most doctors finish their residencies by 29/30, sometimes early 30s if they did a surgical residency. It seems to me that by the time I paid off loans and get established that I will be nearing 40! That is a lot of my working life gone.

Would you go to HARVARD LAW SCHOOL or MEDICAL SCHOOL? 6

I can go to Harvard Law School. I’ll be getting paid about 0,000 at 25 yrs old. By 30 I’ll be making about 5,000 a year. All you do is work and sleep. LIFE IS STRESSFUL AND TOUGH BUT YOU MAKE MONEY YOUNG.

If I go to med school I won’t make money until around 31 but it’ll be well over 0,000. The hours will be my own and most likely I’d take Fridays off. LIFE IS RELAXED AND EASY BUT YOU MAKE MONEY LATE.

Stressful life but money young?

Relaxed life but money later?
My parents are doctors so I know what it’s like. It’s pretty relaxed.

What restrictions are placed on graduates of foreign medical schools who wish to practice in the US? 2

As in, what examinations must they pass? Grade requirements? School accreditations? Residency, does it have to be repeated here if it was done there?
I’m an American student, and I thought I had made it clear that the situation involved study at a foreign school. I don’t need to go to the embassy, as I hold a US passport. What I am asking is what kinds of examinations are necessary to pass, and what are the residency requirements (foreign doctors may know residency as internship).

Can someone get into medical school with these requirements? 2

My girlfriend is going to be z senior and college and she is trying to get in to medical school. She’s works harder than anyone I kow and because of of it she has a 3.95 gpa and a 4.0 in her sciences courses. She has received numerous scholarships and cast year was accepted to a paid internship at the university of Toledo for the summer. Only 2 people were accepted out of about 100 applicants. She also has participated in research since her freshman year and has her named published with a specific experiment that was published. Unfortunately she does not do well at standardized testing, she only received a 19 on her mcat. Can she get in to medical school with everything I just listed? They’ve already asked her for her secondary application and yes she’s taken a Kaplan course. She also has letters of recommendation from highly respected doctors. Thanks for your input.
I was asking for myself I have no idea what the minimums are. I’m looking for possible personal experience or someone knowledgeable on the subject. Thanks for wasting your time to just to be a dbag.

Medical School/College/University…Which one? 2

Can someone tell me which is the best medical school/college/university in the US or in any other country? Thanks…
I actually don’t need the admission requirements. {Thanks for the effort though} I just need who’s who, cause some hospitals abroad get their doctors from the best medical schools. I mean they want the name of that school in your resume. And now I know, there is another term for what competency. Anyways, thanks again!

Why does Medical School focus on grades? 5

If you wish to receive the best answer please answer all the questions in the following. Thanks.

Why does Medical Schools focus on paper grades so much when cheating is very high in the science and math courses?

Why is the MCATs a standard exam for students nationwide when Harvard and other Ivy League schools are known for grade inflation (giving the appearance of exceptional grades and performance)?

Since when does the ability of being able to "puke" words from a textbook verbatim indicate the person’s true understanding of the concept and theory?

Does a grade of "A" make a better Doctor than a grade of "C" in a class where you needed to calculate how hard an item will fall? (Physics)

Why are there so many crappy Doctors out there if the requirements are so intense to become one?

Am I the only one seeing something wrong here?

I’m a 23 year old Molecular Biology 3.21GPA graduating Fall 2008 wishing to become a Doctor of some sort.
