Question by rowena [вlυe eyeѕ]: Where can I find information on medical schools and the process of getting into one?
Where can I find information on the process of getting your undergrad, what exams or tests need to be taken, how to apply and get into medical schools, which medical schools are best for the different fields of medicine [specifically neurology], and most importantly how to apply to medical school.

Thank you so much in advance for any links or websites you send my way.

Any high school or college guidance counselor or transfer office should have lots of this information and the people there can really help you streamline your search. A community college should help you out, even if you are not enrolled there.

Question by scrazygirl25: what are some of the more affordable medical schools in california?
I’d like to go to medical school to become a doctor, but my family doesnt have a lot of money. Right now i’m attending a 4 yr college and paying 44,000 a year for tuition. Most of the cost is covered in loans, so when i graduate i will owe a shitload. I need to know of some of the less expensive medical schools here in california. Can u guys give me specific names of schools?

Best answer:

Answer by hott_tamale
they’re all expensive, I am in medical school and I have one word of advice: get loans and don’t stress about it. My parents are both doctors and they each had about 500,000$ debt EACH. This is most people, they worked hard and lived cheaply for a few years and were able to pay it off pretty quickly. It is all worth it and now they are bankin and luckily they can pay for my med school. But most people are in the same boat as you just get them loans and don’t look back! Good luck..it is a long hard journey and I believe that unless someome is truly called to be a doctor then they won’t make it. Best of luck!

Question by Ascok: Is it hard to get medical schools to accept undergraduate credits?
I’m looking at schools in texas and both my undergraduate degrees are from oklahoma schools. I ran into a lot of problems transferring credits for my 2nd degree. Is it the same for medical schools?

Best answer:

Answer by J
You aren’t transferring any credits when you are applying to a medical school. When you submit a transcript, it is simply verifying that you have met requirements and validating GPAs.

Every medical school receives applications from students in every state (as do undergraduate universities) so the admissions people are very familiar with every school out there. If you encountered a previous problem with some credits, there must be something unusual about those specific credits.

Question by ME: what the difference between medical research schools and primary care?
I’m currentely a sophorome in HS and I aspire to become a pediatritian, but when I look for the best medical schools there is research medical schools and primary care.
* And can you please tell me what I should be doing in HS to have a good record for medical schools? And what major pediatritian would be on? Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Earl D
Research is lab and theoretical work. Developing vaccines, etc.

Primary care work it clinical practise, treating patients.

Some schools are rated better for research like Harvard, some better for clinical like UCSF or Stanford.

In clinical practise you still have to do research work, just not as much. More than half your work is clincial and the rest research.

In research one would imagine it’s just the opposite.

Pediatrican is 4 years extra schooling after you finsihed medical school and internship. So it’s a 12-13 year invesntment in college time.

You need to take lab biology, chemistry, math through trig, statistics if it is offered.

If you’re going to a private universith 2 years foreign language is usually required.

Question by smalia18: What are specific medical schools that put emphasis on extracurricular activities?
I read in several places there are many medical schools that look less at grades and instead are more focused on the “well-rounded” applicant (i.e. — someone that has significant experience in the health field but maybe not as high of a GPA). None of these websites, however, listed any of these schools! Does anyone know the names of specific medical school that view applicants this way? Help!

Best answer:

Answer by Jdubb
Not any reputable medical schools that I know of. “Good” medical schools and grad schools don’t care about your extracurricular activities, but instead grades, GPA, and GAT/GRE/MCAT scores. Having a job during your college years will help in acceptance perhaps. Unless your extracurricular activities were the ordinary, unspecial ones like campus ministry, Choral groups, Concert band, Frats/sororities, Musical theater, student government, Student newspaper, etc. they don’t matter.

Question by Hopeful Med Student: What are the best Medical Schools in the US?
I’ve decided I want to go to Medical School and I know that I have a serious chance as far as important scores and GPA. I really want to go to a highly reputable, respectable and well-known medical school. Of course Harvard is an obvious answer, along with some of the other Ivies, and I’m looking into those, but what are some of the others? I live in Washington State (I know UW is great) and I’m willing to moved to any state I have to. So what are the BEST medical schools in the US?

Best answer:

Answer by Marilolli
I go to University of Utah which is GREAT for medical students as there are plenty of places to get experience. The school has an excellent hospital and is also right across from the regional VA medical center which the school also works with to get added experience. I’d say go to a school that will benefit you academically AND financially. There’s no point to putting hundreds of thousands of dollars into graduate school only to spend 30 years paying your student loans (if that’s the route you go).
