College major and medical school? 4

I will be entering college in fall and while i’m almost positive i want to go the pre med track i don’t know what to major in. I know there is no requirement to major in the sciences to go to medical school, but would it be a bad idea to study something like history ,instead of a science? What are the advantages and disadvantages of picking a non-science major?

Worried about getting into Medical School…? 1

I just started my second year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I’m majoring in Medical Microbiology and Immunology, with Honors in the Liberal Arts, a Certificate in European Studies (our school doesn’t do minors, certificates are the closest thing we have,) and possibly Honors in the Major. I want to go to medical school in the future, however, I’m terrified I am not/wont be qualified. My GPA first semester was a 3.8, but after second semester it dropped to a 3.5 (o-chem killed me). My grades are as follows:
Introduction to Global Cultures-A
Fourth Semester French- A
Advanced General Chemistry- AB
Second Semester Introductory Biology (I skipped first semester due to AP scores): AB
Introductory Organic Chemistry- C
Intermediate French Language and Culture- AB
Introductory Psychology- A
I also have been in the All University Strings Orchestra for two semesters, and received an A for both semesters.

While I still have time to bring my GPA back up, I’m fearful it will be difficult. I have yet another semester of organic chemistry, plus another difficult microbiology class, the associated labs, and two other liberal arts honors classes this semester. Furthermore, I haven’t done any extracurriculars (unless you count orchestra), volunteering, or research work yet, and my credit load is so heavy this semester, that I’m not sure that I will have time to start, although I was planning on volunteering at the hospital this semester. However, in conjunction with my lack of time, there were a few other reasons why I can’t start volunteering at the hospital this semester, at least right away. My credit load next semester should be lighter and allow for more extracurriculars and volunteering, but I’m afraid that if I start next semester, it wouldn’t be enough to “look good” on my applications. As far as research goes, either first or second semester next year, I plan on doing a directed study for credit, which will hopefully segue into a research opportunity for my senior honors thesis. What I am looking for in this question is, all things considered, how does this look so far in terms of getting into medical school in the future? Of course, one would hope that my grades would continue to improve, and that I would get to start doing more extracurricular, research work, and volunteering in the semesters to come, but is it too little too late? And say I don’t get straight As in all of my classes, but perhaps a mixture of As, ABs, Bs, and maybe one or two more Cs, how will this affect my chances of getting into medical school? Furthermore, is putting all this effort into getting an Honors in the Liberal Arts, Honors in the Major, and a Certificate in European Studies even worth it to medical school admissions?
I should clarify, my GPA last semester wasn’t a 3.5, that is my total GPA currently, 1st and 2nd semester combined (its actually a 3.554)

How hard is medical school? 2

I know you can’t really describe how hard something like this is. However, I currently attend a public school which is in the top 50 in the United States, and I want to go to a university like Duke or Stanford. How hard is med school in comparison to these? (I also know it depends on the med school and the path) I’m talking about like Duke/Harvard med school, and training to become a dermatologist or surgeon.

Should I mention God in my personal statement to medical schools? 7

I am a firm believer that God put all here for a very specific purpose and I am certain that my calling is to become a medical doctor. He worked through people in my life to inspire me and this is what I am going to do with my life. In my personal statement, I will of course talk about the people in my life that have inspired me, but should my faith be mentioned? I know that God made me for this, and though I may not be the applicant with the highest scores, I know that I will certainly be at the top of the list for those with true passion. I may not be the best chemistry or physics person, but I WILL BE THE BEST DOCTOR! Should I mention that?

what major will prepare you best for medical school/ orthopedics? 2

can you get into medical school by going to a normal university? 2

Can you get into medical school by going to a normal state university? Or do you have to go to a private college? And what are the recommended classes you need to take so you can get into medical school? I want to Know because i want to be a doctor in emergency medicine and knowing wat kind of pre-med schools are best would really help. And wat medical schools are best? If you can help thank you very much.

I'm thinking about being a dentist later on. Should I major in biology or biomedical engineering? 4

Both fufill medical school requirements. Biology is an easier major compared to biomed engineering. But biology is a pointless degree if I don’t go to medical school or change my mind about dentistry. Biomed is a killer degree from what I’ve heard, it’s like a double major. It is a more useful major if I decide to get a non-medical job. What should I do?
